Water and weight loss go hand in hand. Not only it boosts burning of calories, but it also helps to flush toxins from your body by supporting normal kidney functions.

But what if you just don’t like the taste of plain, old water?

Try detox infused water!

This delicious, zero or low-calorie drink tastes great and will help you to keep up with the necessary water intake throughout the day much easier.

How to make detox infused water

The making of these tasty, metabolism-boosting drinks is very simple and the preparation steps are pretty much the same, no matter what ingredients are you using.

  1. Wash the fruit and herbs thoroughly. Opt for organic citrus fruits if you want to use them with their skin on. Otherwise, you might want to remove the skin before placing them into the jar/bottle.
  2. Cut the fruit into smaller pieces and place it at the bottom of the jar. Add herbs and gently crush the contents to release the flavor.
  3. Add water. You can definitely use regular tap of bottled water. But if you want to add some extra health benefits to your detox water, opt for Shungite water.

TIP: Prepare herb ice cubes in advance. Cut various herbs such as mint and rosemary, distribute them evenly into ice cube tray and fill in with water. This is a great hack if you don’t have herbs growing in your backyard (like me) and want to have them fresh and ready for your detox water or smoothie.

1. Lemon Cucumber Basil Detox Water

Definitely my favorite. Delicious and refreshing combination. Just perfect to take with you and sip all day. Besides the great taste, cucumbers possess some wonderful health benefits.

They are a known antioxidant, a great source of vitamin B, rich in potassium and magnesium. Moreover, they contain flavonol fisetin known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

You will need:

  • cucumber, sliced
  • basil leaves
  • lemon, sliced
  • filtered or Shungite water
  • ice cubes (optional)

By pairing with basil and lemon, you will get ultimate toxin-flushing detox water full of antioxidants.

2. Watermelon Blueberry Mint Infused Water

This is wonderful, summer cooling drink that tastes as great as it looks. Watermelon contains a decent amount of vitamin C and vitamin A which help us to keep our skin healthy.

You will need:

  • a handful of blueberries
  • few pieces of watermelon
  • mint leaves (fresh or frozen in ice cubes)
  • filtered or Shungite water
  • ice cubes (optional)

Blueberries are a well-known antioxidant, often labeled as a superfruit. According to healthline.com, these little blue gems are high in fiber, vitamin K and C. Thanks to a compound known as flavonoids, blueberries are believed to have one of the highest antioxidant levels of all fruits and vegetables.

3. Grapefruit Lemon Rosemary Detox Water

This is an amazing, slightly bitter drink to beat the tummy bloat and give your body a proper detox.

You will need:

  • grapefruit, sliced, zest removed
  • lemon, sliced, zest removed
  • few stalks of rosemary
  • filtered or Shungite water
  • ice cubes (optional)

Grapefruits contain bromelain, an enzyme known to help reduce fluid retention and swelling. It also flushes the toxins out of the body. Moreover, grapefruit works amazing when applied onto the skin in the form of essential oil, as it can improve the appearance of cellulite. I usually add a few drops to my homemade coffee body scrub.

Rosemary, known to help improve immune system and circulation brings its own wonderful herbal zing to this drink.

TIP: Make sure you remove the zest from both lemons and grapefruit (even if it’s organic), as the might make the drink too bitter.

4. Apple Cinnamon Detox Water

This infused water became a hit on the internet recently and it is considered to be the best natural detox drink. The combination of apple and cinnamon not only reminds of a yummy cake lol, but it also has amazing benefits for metabolism!

You will need:

  • sliced apple with skin (cored and sliced as thin as possible)
  • few cinnamon sticks
  • filtered of Shungite water

Apples are extremely rich in important antioxidants and flavonoids, including Vitamins C and B. Cinnamon speeds up your metabolism and aids digestion.

For the best flavor and maximum benefits, leave it to refrigerate overnight and enjoy first thing in the morning.

How long can you keep fruit in the water?

Fruit-infused water is best to drink chilled in the fridge after two to four hours. According to my experience, you can use the same fruit content about three to four times before it loses its flavor.

If you use soft leafy herbs (basil or mint) in combination with acid fruits, you might want to change the contents more frequently as the leaves tend to turn brown and lose flavor faster.

The best thing about infused water

This simple combination of various fruits, vegetables, herbs, and water is a great option if you don’t like the taste of “ordinary” water but need a healthy alternative to diet sodas or caffeinated beverages.

Infused water can definitely help you drink more fluids throughout the day and it will become your favorite refreshing treat during these any hot summer day.

These drinks are extremely variable and you can try any combination of your favorite ingredients to create your own infused water recipe.
