What is ERGOBaby Omni 360?
ERGOBaby Omni 360 is an ergonomic baby carrier that gives you the freedom to get on with everyday tasks while the baby is snuggled up next to your chest. It is a fantastic way to support the natural bonding process with your newborn baby. With this carrier, you can have it all. Your baby can be ergonomically seated in all four carry positions:
- front inward facing – from newborn, min. 7lbs / 3.2 kg & Min. 20in / 51 cm. The Best position for the first three months.
- front outward – from 5 months, min. 14 lbs / 6.4 kg. Baby must have strong head control and chin is above the carrier.
- hip carry – from 6 months, min. 17.2 lbs / 7.8 kg. Baby must be able to sit on their own.
- back carry – from 6 months, min. 17.2 lbs / 7.8 kg. Baby must be able to sit on their own.
Its design ensures that your baby is seated in the anatomically correct way (the “M” position) supporting his hips and spine. The manufacturer claims that this carrier is designed to fit all parents, from petite to large body types and I have to say this carrier does exactly what it says on the tin. It fits perfectly to me (petite, 5″4) and also to my extremely tall hubby 6″ 4).
Unlike other ERGOBaby carriers, Omni 360 has a front-outward facing option available for 6+ months old baby. This is a wonderful feature as at this age, babies start to be interested in the world around them and want to see what’s happening. My son loved to be worn inward facing until he was 5 months or so. I enjoyed long walks while carrying him as he fell asleep almost instantly and slept for 1,5-2 hours. This way I can tell that he feels comfy 🙂 As he gets older, I wear him mostly outward facing, because he just loves to look around.
Who is it for
I would say this carrier is made for parents who plan to wear baby longer than 6-12 months. Since it grows with the child from newborn up to 3 years, it could be the only carrier you will ever need. Thanks to its versatility it lets you wear your baby longer and in more ways. Also, opt for this carrier if you don’t feel comfortable about carrying the baby in a wrap.
Why I love it
I didn’t wear my first son, so with my second son, it was basically a first-time baby-wearing experience. As my son isn’t a featherweight, I was looking for a carrier that would be comfy enough to wear even for a couple of hours, without putting too much strain on my back.
After trying multiple baby carriers, I got to try ERGObaby. I have to say that I am that kind of lazy person who barely reads any instruction manuals before using new things 🙂 This carrier was easy and very intuitive to put on and adjust. Of course, I checked the manual afterward just to ensure everything is adjusted securely 🙂
There are a couple of features that make it the best baby carrier for me:
Pleasant to use for both mom and the baby. The padding around leg holes and on the back straps makes it super comfy. The lumbar support waistband takes the weight off your shoulders, so you’ll feel lightweight even after a long walk. I even do my workouts while my son is strapped inside and I must say I don’t feel any pain in my back or shoulders. The shoulder straps can be buckled into an X shape for even more comfort.
Whether you set off for a short hike to the woods, decide to do a “weighted” workout session or just need to lull the baby to sleep while cooking dinner, Omni 360 is an awesome helper. The design of the carrier lets you breastfeed comfortably while wearing the baby. I absolutely love this feature, because it is super convenient, you don’t need to hustle around with nursing scarf and most people don’t even notice you are breastfeeding.
This carrier grows with your baby from newborn to toddler. As the baby grows, you can change the carry positions according to your and your baby needs. It is recommended to use the front inward facing position until your baby is 6 months old or weights more than 12 pounds. An infant insert is needed for carrying a newborn. So far, we have tried two wearing positions – front carry inward and outward. Right now we are pretty much enjoying the front-facing position, but I am already looking forward to trying the other two.
3. Easy to use
It is so simple to wear and figure out. I could easily put the baby in and take him out after just a little practice. The shoulder straps are easy to tighten or loosen while wearing the carrier. Strapping the baby into the inward facing front position is pretty straightforward. Putting older baby into the outward facing front position can be a bit tricky as the fiddle around much more than the newborn 🙂 It just takes a little more practice to figure it out.
Sometimes you just don’t want the hassle of taking the stroller. There are days when your little one is grumpy but you just need to do some household chores. Or you want to explore places where a stroller is not practical to use. A quick trip to the shops or to pick up the older kid from school/nursery? Just pop the baby into the ERGObaby carrier and off you go. I just love the freedom that a baby carrier provides. The carrier comes with a small storage pouch attached to the waistband, which comes very handy for your phone and some coffee money.
Although very minor, there are some things I would change if I could. The padded straps (otherwise very comfy) can get a little bulky when X crossed on the back. It can get a bit uncomfortable when you try to put a jacket over it. Another thing is that it does get a little hot inside during those heated summer days, but for me, it was not a big deal since we don’t have many hot days during summer here. Whenever it was too hot outside, I went for a walk in the evenings, when the temperature was more bearable. If you live in locations with a hot climate, I suggest the cool air mesh variation, that is ideal for warm weather conditions.
Have a look at the instructional videos from ERGOBaby to see how this carrier works and what options does it offer. If you are a visual person like me, seeing it on video gives you much more than reading it 100 times 🙂
When I go out with a stroller, I always keep my carrier on the bottom of the stroller just in case there’s a need to use it. I pretty much take it almost everywhere I go with the baby, together with the diaper bag.
Overall I think ERGOBaby Omni 360 is an amazing product that will become your best friend once you get your hands on it. It is essentially four carriers in one in a great ergonomic design, that comfortable and orthopedically safe not only for your little one but also for you. With all the carry positions and the possibility to carry your child up to 36 months, it is well worth the price tag.
